A Libby man is being held on $100,000 bond after allegedly stabbing his girlfriend with a butter knife.

Daniel Leggins, 21, was arrested on Feb. 11 for assault with a weapon, a felony.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Libby Police Officer Ron Buckner was called to an alleged assault at a Libby store parking lot on Feb. 11.

On arrival, Buckner was informed that Leggins had allegedly stabbed his girlfriend in the lip with a butter knife.

His girlfriend told Buckner that, while she was at her sister’s house, Leggins called her from the bar and requested a ride home. The girlfriend then told Buckner that Leggins was upset and she didn’t go pick him up because she was afraid of him.

After Leggins allegedly promised his girlfriend he wouldn’t do anything, she left her sister’s house and grabbed a butter knife for protection.

As soon as she picked him up, Leggins allegedly went to hit her and she allegedly pulled the butter knife from under her sleeve.

As she was driving, Leggins allegedly grabbed the knife out of her hand and stabbed her in the mouth behind her lower lip.

His girlfriend told Buckner that she stopped the vehicle, fled into a nearby store and told the cashier what happened.

Leggins was charged in Nov. 2016 for partner family member assault, a misdemeanor, after he allegedly punched the same girlfriend in the face during an argument.
